Reaching Kedarnath

By Air: In order to reach Kedarnath, the devotees are required to get down at Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. The airport is situated at a distance of 238kms from Kedarnath and well-connected to Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Lucknow, as well as Thiruvananthapuram.

By Train: To reach Kedarnath, the devotees are required to de-board at the Rishikesh Railway Station and take private taxis or local transport buses from the railway station. Kedarnath is located at a distance of 216km.

By Road: When it comes to the matter of reaching Kedarnath, the nearest motorable road is till Gaurikund that lies on NH109. From there on, the devotees have to take a 14km trek from Gaurikund.

 

Kedarnath Weather Condition

The Kapat of Kedarnath will be opening for devotees on May 9th, 2019. Before the opening of the main gates, Bhairavnath Puja at Ukimath will take place on May 7th, 2019. Indeed, the weather condition in Kedarnath is cold throughout the year; even in summers. So, it is important for the devotees take woolen clothes with them. Apart from this, the months of May and June witnesses heavy crowd of devotees. This requires you to make all the necessary bookings well in advance.

What to Do on Travelling to Kedarnath

  • Since, the weather at Kedarnath is cold throughout the year; it is necessary for the devotees carry warm clothes.
  • One should take basic sickness medicines, including high altitude sickness for avoiding any chaotic situations.
  • Make all the bookings well in advance as the temple opens for devotees on May 9th, 2019 and the months of May-June witnesses heavy crowd. The doors of Kedarnath will be closed for devotees on November 9th, 2019.
  • One should carry an umbrella with them to stay safe in rainy season.
  • It is better to wear flat shoes or sneakers for a comfortable trek to Kedarnath from Gaurikund.
